Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a double-header split on Sunday, taking game two 10-2 after falling in game one 5-4. The Bearcats now move to 4-10 (2-2 MIAA) on the young season.
In game one the Bearcats jumped ahead of the Lopers early.
Londyn Backfisch opened the game up with a walk, was sacrificed over to second, and came home on a
Caitlyn Cooner rbi single to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats added two more runs in the top of the fourth when
Lyndie Routh singled home two SBU runs to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead. In the next inning, Cooner extended SBU's lead to 4-0 with a solo homerun to right center. However, Nebraska Kearney responded with four runs of their own in the sixth inning, and another run in the eighth inning, as SBU fell 5-4 in extra innings.
In game two SBU once again got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. Backfisch led the game off with a double to left field, was sacrificed over to third, and brought home on a Cooner single. SBU extended their lead in the next inning when
Abby Martin had an rbi groundout to put SBU up 2-0. UNK tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth, but the Bearcats would dominate the game from that point on.
The Bearcats plated eight runs in the top of the sixth to blow the game wide open. After Cooner reached on an error, Taylor Golay blasted a two-run homerun to left field to put the Bearcats up 4-2. After an out, the Bearcats loaded the bases when Backfisch hit an rbi fielder's choice to add another run to the scoreboard. A double by

Raigan Ratliff, and double by
Caitlyn Cooner all brought home runs as SBU took a 10-2 lead. The Bearcats never looked back as they ended game two with an 10-2 mercy rule victory.
SBU will quickly return to action on Monday, March 10 when they travel to Fort Hays State for a double-header against the Tigers. Opening pitch for game one is set for 1:00 p.m. from Hays, Kansas.
