Bolivar, Mo. - After defeating the #6 seed Washburn, SBU will now travel to Kansas City to face the #3 seed Pittsburg State on Thursday evening. The winner of the SBU/PSU game will face the winner of the Emporia State/Central Oklahoma game in the semi-finals.
The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Todd Voss in his third season on the Bearcat bench. Coach Voss has compiled a 140-80 career coaching record (32-48 at SBU), and has made two NAIA Final Four appearances while as head coach. Coach Voss comes to SBU after spending 5 years as the assistant women's basketball coach at Drake University.
Lane Lord is in his 7th season as the head coach at Pittsburg State. Lord holds a career coaching record of 104-68. Under Lord, the team set school records for most wins, fewest losses, highest winning percentage, consecutive wins, most points in a game, rebounds and blocked shots.
Pittsburg State leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 30-24. In their only matchup this season, Pittsburg State claimed a 73-58 victory at PSU.
Scouting the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist is coming off of an 85-73 upset victory over Washburn in the 1st round of the MIAA Tournament. SBU now stands at 12-15 (6-13 MIAA) on the season.
Brook Duncan leads the way for the Bearcats, averaging 15.0 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game, while
Jacqui Zelenka averages 14.5 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Dilonna Johnson averages 8.5 ppg and 4.4 assists per game, while down low
Mackenzie Skupa averages 8.7 ppg and
Morgan Lucy averages 7.0 ppg.
Scouting the Gorillas
Pittsburg State enters the MIAA Tournament as the #3 seed, and are currently ranked #22 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll. PSU finished the regular season 23-6 (16-3 MIAA) and have won 12 straight.
Lizzy Jeronimus leads the PSU offense, averaging a team high 18.8 ppg, a team high 6.6 rpg, and a team high 2.6 apg. The Gorillas hold opponents to 38.8% shooting from the field and 64.2 ppg.
