Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team fell in a double-header contest to Northeastern State on Saturday. The Bearcats fell 6-2 in game one, and 7-5 in extra innings in game two.
In game one, Northeastern State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with runs in the second, third, and fifth innings. The Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning. After
Addie Murders was hit by a pitch,
Tyler Hernandez hit her third homerun of the year to cut the NSU lead in half at 4-2. NSU would add two more runs in the contest, as SBU would fall 6-2.
In game two, the Bearcats jumped out to an early lead. With one out in the first,
Addie Murders singled to center field followed by a
Caitlyn Cooner two-run homerun to put SBU up 2-0. NSU responded with 5 runs in the next half inning, as SBU trailed 5-2. The Bearcats got one run back in the bottom of the second off of an rbi single from Murders, and another two runs off of a two-run homerun from Taylor Golay in the third inning. The Bearcats and Riverhawks would shut each other out for the next four innings before NSU would score two runs in the top of the eighth inning as SBU fell 7-5 in game two.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, April 4 when they travel to Lindenwood for a double-header match-up against the Lions. Opening pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. from St. Charles, Missouri.
