Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team fell in a double-header against the defending NCAA National Champion Central Oklahoma on Friday afternoon in Bolivar 7-3 and 12-4.
Caitlyn Cooner led the Bearcats with two solo shots, but SBU falls to 9-19 (3-11 MIAA) on the season.
In game one, the Bearcats and Bronchos remained tied 0-0 after the first two innings of play. UCO got on the scoreboard in the 3rd off of an SBU error, and added another four runs the following inning as SBU went down 5-0. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Bearcats loaded the bases with two outs when
Hailey Turner doubled to center field to plate two runs and pull SBU within 3 at 5-2. UCO responded right back with two runs of their own in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning
Caitlyn Cooner hit her first homerun on the day to cut the lead to 7-3, but the Bearcats were unable to get any closer as they fell 7-3.
In game two UCO quickly jumped ahead of SBU by scoring four runs in the first half inning of play. SBU responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run off of a Brocho error, as the Bearcats trailed 4-1. UCO scored the next five runs to take a 9-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. SBU got one run back in the bottom half of the fifth when
Londyn Backfisch hit an rbi groundout to score
Amanda Smith and cut the UCO lead to 9-2. After a three run sixth inning by UCO, Cooner and
Lyndie Routh both hit solo shots in the sixth to cut the deficit to 12-4, but the Bearcats were unable to score anymore runs as they fell 12-4.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, March 29 when they host Northeastern State. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
