Box Score Joplin, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team lost a heart breaker to Missouri Southern on Friday evening 2-1. The Bearcats held a 1-0 lead going into the eighth inning, but runs in the 8th and 9th gave MSSU the 2-1 victory.
The game proved to be a pitcher's dual from the beginning, with SBU claiming a 1-0 lead in the second inning off of a solo homerun from
Bo Helsel. The Bearcats and Lions would hold each other scoreless over the next five innings, with SBU holding a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the eight inning. Missouri Southern would score a run in the eighth, and another in the ninth, as SBU drops game one of a four game series 2-1.
Cory Borsh threw an excellent game from the mound, pitching 8.0 innings while allowing only one run on five hits. With the loss, SBU falls to 14-13 (11-9 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, March 29 for a double-header against the Lions. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from Joplin, Missouri.
