SBU Baseball Earns Split at Truman State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kirksville, Mo. - In a break from MIAA action, the Southwest Baptist University baseball team earned a split at Truman State on Wednesday afternoon. The Bearcats claimed a 10-3 game two victory after falling 10-7 in game one.

In game one of the double-header Truman State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning of play. The Bulldogs added another three runs in the fourth inning before the Bearcats were able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth.

With one out in the top of the fifth inning, SBU received back-to-back-to-back singles from Landon Young, Christian Binger, and Chance Wolfe to load the bases. Jake Vore then hit a two-rbi single to cut the lead to 6-2, and Bo Helsel added an rbi single later in the inning as SBU went into the fifth down 6-3.

The Bearcats pulled within two in the top half of the sixth inning off of a Binger rbi single, but Truman State scored four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning as SBU went into the seventh down 10-4. The Bearcats got three runs back in the seventh off of a TSU error, a ground-rule rbi double from Zach Snodgrass, and a wild pitch, but it wasn't enough as SBU fell 10-7.

In game two SBU quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Bearcats loaded the bases off of three singles, and an rbi groundout from Bo Helsel gave SBU a 1-0 lead. Ross Wolfe then hit a two-rbi single up the middle to extend the lead to 3-0. Truman State got on the scoreboard with a run in the second, but SBU responded in the top of the fourth when Christian Binger hit a rbi triple to give SBU a 4-1 lead.

After an Truman State score, the Bearcats responded right back with a pair of runs off of an rbi single from Drew Miller and an rbi groundout by Tyler Hampton. SBU added another run in the sixth inning off of a TSU error, pushing the lead to 7-2, but Truman State scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to make the game 7-3. SBU added another three runs in the top of the seventh off of a passed ball and a two-rbi single from Chance Wolfe as the Bearcats cruise to a 10-3 victory. Cole Roark earned the game two victory by pitching 5 innings while allowing only three hits and two runs.

The Bearcats will return to MIAA action on Friday, March 28 when they travel to Missouri Southern. Opening pitch is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. from Joplin, Mo.
