Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up their second sweep of the week by taking down Ottawa 3-2 and 11-3 (5 innings) in a double-header at the SBU Softball Field. With the victories, the Bearcats now move to 9-17 on the season.
SBU jumped on the scoreboard early in game one of the double-header, plating three runs in the first inning. The Bearcats opened up the game with a walk by
Londyn Backfisch, a bunt single by
Addie Murders, while
Caitlyn Cooner was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Hailey Tuner was then hit by a pitch to bring home Backfisch, and an rbi fielder's choice by Taylor Golay coupled with an error by Ottawa gave SBU a 3-0 lead. Ottawa got two runs back in the top of the third, but
Kyra Parker dominated for the remainder of the game, as SBU took game one 3-2. Parker threw a complete game, allowing only three hits to go along with 4 strikeouts.
In game two, the Bearcats once again jumped ahead early.
Londyn Backfisch led the game off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and came home on an rbi groundout by
Addie Murders to put SBU up 1-0. After a 1-2-3 inning by Ottawa, the Bearcats led off the bottom of the second with back-to-back homeruns from
Raigan Ratliff and
Kacey Ayers to push the lead to 3-0. The Bearcats added another run in the inning off of an error by Ottawa to take a 4-0 lead into the third inning.
Ottawa got two runs back in the 4th before SBU exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on the corners, Backfisch hit an infield single to bring home Ratliff and give SBU a 5-2 lead. The Bearcats then loaded the bases for
Caitlyn Cooner who blasted a grand slam to push SBU's lead to 9-2. Ottawa got one back in the 5th, but SBU plated two runs from an rbi double by
Amanda Smith and an rbi single from Backfisch, to run rule the Braves 11-3.
SBU will return to action on Friday, March 28 when they host Central Oklahoma. Opening pitch of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
