SBU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first game of the day.
Landon Young and
Spencer Blacksher both hit singles, placing runners on the corners, when
Jake Vore doubled to right center to give SBU a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back singles by
Ross Wolfe and
Chance Wolfe would plate Vore as the Bearcats were up 3-0 after the first inning of play.
SBU added another 4 runs the following inning by stringing together timely hits. With a runner on first and one out,
Christian Binger doubled to left field to put the Bearcats up 4-0. Two batters later
Ross Wolfe had an rbi double to left field, followed by a two-rbi double from
Chance Wolfe to give SBU a 7-0 lead. Lindenwood got a run back in the top of the third, but SBU added another two in the bottom half of the inning off of a Young sacrifice fly and a Blacksher rbi double to extend the lead to 9-1.
Lindenwood scored the next four runs to cut the lead to 9-5, but SBU added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth off of a sacrifice fly from
Chance Wolfe and an error by LU. The Bearcats would cruise to an 11-5 game one victory as
Tim Collins picked up the victory and Spencer Edwards earned the save.
Game two provided to be a pitcher's dual, as both teams struggled to put runs on the scoreboard. The Bearcats had a huge 3rd inning where they took a strong 4-0 lead. With runners on the corners, SBU scored their first run on a passed ball by Lindenwood, and got an rbi single from
Spencer Blacksher to increase the lead to 2-0. The Bearcats then had back-to-back rbi singles from
Chance Wolfe and
Bo Helsel to take a 4-0 lead heading into the 4th inning.
Lindenwood responded with two runs of their own, cutting the SBU lead to 4-2, but the Lions wouldn't get any closer for the remainder of the game. SBU starter, Cory Borsch, pitched an outstanding game, throwing 8 innings of two-run ball.
Sam Vergara then came on in the 9th to record his school record tying 7th save of the season, as SBU would claim a 4-2 game two victory.
The Bearcats take a small break from MIAA action when they travel to Truman State on Wednesday, March 26. Opening pitch of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from Kirskville, Missouri.
