Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up a double-header sweep against Williams Baptist on Tuesday afternoon, taking game one 2-1 and game two 4-1. The Bearcats move to 6-16 on the season while Williams Baptist falls to 9-11.
In game one against the Eagles, Southwest Baptist went down 1-0 through two innings of play. The Bearcats responded an inning later when
Amanda Smith tripled to center field and was brought home one batter later on a rbi single from
Caitlyn Cooner to tie the game up at 1-1. SBU pitcher
Kacey Ayers then shut down the Eagles for the remainder of the game. After allowing two hits through the first two inning of play, Ayers did not allow a hit for the remainder of the game, throwing a two-hit complete game. Ayers was outstanding in the extra frames, and a pinch hit rbi single from
Tyler Hernandez gave SBU the 2-1 victory.
In game two, Williams Baptist once again jumped ahead early, taking a 1-0 lead after a half inning of play. The Bearcats quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. After a
Caitlyn Cooner two-out walk,
Tyler Hernandez continued her strong day with a two-run homerun to left field to put SBU up 2-1. The Bearcats added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as SBU had back-to-back singles from
Addie Murders and
Lyndie Routh to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice,
Amanda Smith then doubled to right center to plate both runners and give SBU a 4-1 lead. The Bearcats would hold their lead and come away with a 4-1 victory.
Kyra Parker threw a complete game for the Bearcats, allowing one unearned run off of three hits.
The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, March 20 when they travel to William Jewell. The double-header against the Cardinals is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Liberty, Missouri.
