Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team took a short break from MIAA play on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Drury 10-8. With the victory SBU moves to 10-10 on the year, while Drury falls to 6-6.
Drury was the first to strike, scoring runs in both the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third. After one out in the bottom of the third,
Chance Wolfe hit his first career homerun to cut the Panther lead in half at 2-1. The Bearcats then got two runners on for
Spencer Blacksher who blasted his sixth homerun of the year to put SBU up 4-2.
After a 1-2-3 fourth inning from Drury, SBU came right back and added to their lead. The Bearcats utilized two Panther errors, and
Landon Young hit a three-run homerun to extend SBU's lead to 7-2.
Christian Binger was then hit by a pitch, and
Spencer Blacksher hit his second homerun on the day to put SBU up 9-2. DU got four runs back in the sixth inning, and SBU scored another run off of a
Bo Helsel single to put the Bearcats up 10-6 through six innings of play.
Drury continued to fight, cutting the lead to 10-8, but the SBU relievers shut down the Panthers over the final two innings of play as SBU claimed a 10-8 victory.
Cory Borsh (1-2) was credited with the victory, while the loss goes to Kevin Sweeney (2-2).
Sam Vergara picked up his MIAA leading 5th save of the season, which also ranks 2nd on the single season saves record.
SBU will return to MIAA action on Friday, March 21 when they host Lindenwood in a four-game series. Game one of the double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
