Bearcats Hit 5 Homeruns in Split Against Truman State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team earned a double-header split against Truman State on Tuesday afternoon. The Bearcats claimed a 17-7 victory in game two after falling 21-9 in the first game of the high scoring double-header.

After two scoreless inning in game one, Truman State got on the scoreboard in the top of the third with 4 runs. Southwest Baptist responded right back in the bottom of the third when Spencer Blacksher blasted a two-run homerun to left field to cut the Bulldog lead in half at 4-2. Truman State added another run in the 4th, and six more in the 5th, to take an 11-2 lead before SBU once again faught back. In the bottom of the fifth, the Bearcats had a runner on second with two outs before stringing together four straight hits to cut the Bulldog lead down to 11-7. Kyle Jochems and Ross Wolfe both had rbi singles before Landon Young hit a three-run homerun to left to put SBU back in the game. However, the Truman State offense continued to grind, putting up the game's next 10 runs to go up 21-7. SBU got two runs back in the bottom of the seventh from a two-run homerun by Christian Binger, but it wasn't enough as SBU fell 21-9.

In game two of the double-header Truman State once again jumped out to an early lead, scoring an unearned run in the top of the first inning. SBU starter, Tim Collins, then threw four innings of hit-less ball while the offense put runs on the board to give SBU a comfortbale lead.

In the bottom of the first inning, SBU quickly took over the lead by a two-rbi double from Jake Vore to put SBU up 2-1. The Bearcats continued to press in the second inning with an rbi single from Zach Snodgrass and an sacrifice fly from Binger to extend the lead to 4-1. In the third inning SBU tacked on four more runs with a pair of two-rbi singles from Tyler Hampton and Binger, while SBU added another four runs in the fourth off of a sacrifice fly from Hampton and a three-run homerun from Landon Young. The Bearcats continued their offensive surge with an rbi single from Vore and a two-run homerun from Bo Helsel to extend the lead to 15-1. Truman State got three runs back in the sixth, but SBU plated two more in the bottom half of the inning off of a Binger single and a sacrifice fly from Spencer Blacksher. The Bearcats would cruise to a 17-7 game two victory.

The Bearcats had an outstanding day hitting the ball, with nine different players picking up multiple hits across the two games. Jake Vore collected 5 hits, while Landon Young and Christian Binger had 4 a piece, and Young added a day high two homeruns. Landon Young, Christian Binger, Spencer Blacksher, Jake Vore, Bo Helsel, and Tyler Hampton all produced multiple rbi days for SBU.

SBU will return to MIAA action on Friday, March 14 when they travel to Northwest Missouri State. Game one of the four game series is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Maryville, Missouri.
