Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team clined the #10 seed in the MIAA Tournament with a 100-97 victory against Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats finish the regular season 14-14 (7-12 MIAA).
In the high scoring affair, the Bearcats came out on fire. After trailing by two (7-5) early on, SBU used a 11-2 run to push their lead up to 7 with 13:53 left in the first half. SBU continued to push their lead forward by strong shooting, leading by as many as 14 (36-22), before Missouri Western started to fight back. The Bearcats ended up going into halftime with a 46-45 lead as MWSU ended the half on a 9-2 run.
In the second half both teams continued to play strong back and forth offense. The Bearcats found themselves down five (79-74) with 9:11 left in the game before SBU started to fight back. Southwest Baptist used an 8-0 run to regain the lead with 6:51 to go in the game and never trailed again as they went on to the 100-97 victory.
Desi Barmore had a solid game for SBU off of the bench, scoring a team high 32 points to go along with 6 rebounds, while
Rashaad Brown-Peterson scored 23 points with 4 assists and 4 rebounds, and
Preston Guiot added 20 points with 4 assists and 4 rebounds. As a team SBU shot 54.8% from the floor, 44.0% from beyond the arc, and 61.8% from the free throw line.
With the victory the Bearcats earned the #10 seed in the MIAA Tournament, and will travel to #7 seeded Emporia State on Tuesday, March 4. Tip off from Emporia, Kansas is set for 7:00 p.m.
