SBU Women's Basketball Falls in Closing Minutes 67-64 at #13 UCM

Box Score Warrensburg, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team lost a heartbreaking game at #13 Central Missouri 67-64. The Bearcats hung tight with the nationally ranked Jennies, but were unable to pull out the victory.

To open up the game, Jacqui Zelenka gave the Bearcats back-to-back buckets to take a 4-0 lead. The Jennies responded, with a tied up game with 16:17 left in the first half, and UCM extended their lead to 9 (10-19) with 10:28 to go in the first half. However, the Bearcats fought back and kept the game within striking distance, trailing 36-27.

In the second half UCM extended their lead to 12 before SBU started to battle back. After trailing 41-31 with 17:41 to go in the contest, the Bearcats started to chip away at the lead, getting the game within four at 43-39. The Jennies pushed their lead back to seven before SBU took their first lead of the second half off of a Brook Duncan three to lead 52-50 with 9:16 to go in the contest. The Bearcats and Jennies continued to exchange leads, before UCM hit free throws down the stretch as SBU fell 67-64.

Brook Duncan led the way for SBU with 20 points off of 8 of 12 shooting while Jacqui Zelenka recorded her second straight double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. As a team SBU shot 36.1% from the field, 31.3% from beyond the arc, and 100.0% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats will return home on Tuesday, February 11 when they host Lindenwood University in the annual Play4Kay game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
