Box Score Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University basketball team fell at the hands of Pittsburg State on Tuesday evening 73-58. With the loss, SBU fall to 9-10 (4-8 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats held tight with the Gorillas for the first ten minutes of the contest, holding a small lead (12-10) with 12:51 to go in the half. However, Pittsburg State would use a 13-2 run to push their lead to nine (14-23) with 8:27 left in the first. After going down 11 (16-27) with 5:31 left in the half, the Bearcats continued to fight, cutting the lead down to four (23-27) with 2:21 left in the first before going into the half down 34-23.
In the second half Pittsburg State slowly grew their lead as Southwest Baptist would eventually fall 73-58.
Jacqui Zelenka led the Bearcats with a strong performance on the evening, posting a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 6 assists.
Morgan Lucy also added 15 points down low for SBU while
Dilonna Johnson gave SBU 7 points. As a team, SBU shot 33.8% from the field, 28.6% from beyond the arc, and 83.3% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will continue their road trip on Thursday, February 6 when they travel to #13 Central Missouri. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from Warrensburg, Missouri.
