SBU Men's Basketball Takes Down Pittsburg State 89-74

Box Score Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team continued their string of impressive play with an 89-74 victory at Pittsburg State on Tuesday evening. With the victory, SBU moves to 11-10 (4-8 MIAA) on the season.

The Bearcats and Gorillas played a tight first eight minutes of the half, with both teams exchanging leads. After leading 18-15 with 12:03 left in the first, the Bearcats went on a 7-2 run to bump their lead to eight. The Bearcats maintained their lead, going into the half up 40-33.

In the second half, the Bearcats started to take over the game. Coming out of the break, seven straight points from Desi Barmore quickly pushed the Bearcats lead to double-figures at 47-33. However, Pittsburg State would continue to fight, pulling the game back within single digits with 10:30 to go (61-54). SBU responded with back-to-back three's from David Gabrovsek and Derrick Stewart to once again push their lead to double-figures. The Bearcats would increase their lead to a game high 21 points before crusing to an 89-74 victory.

Desi Barmore once again provided SBU with a double-double, scoring a team high 26 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Derrick Stewart also chipped in 17 points, including 5 three's, David Gabrovsek had 15 points, Rashaad Brown-Peterson had 14 points, and Preston Guiot dished out 12 assists in the victory. As a team SBU shot 52.7% from the field, 48.3% from beyond the arc, and 60.7% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats will continue their road trip on Thursday, February 6 when they travel to Central Missouri. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from Warrensburg, Missouri.
