SBU Baseball Wins Double-Header Against Nebraska-Kearney

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Tishomingo, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team swept the double-header against Nebraska-Kearney on Friday afternoon, taking game one 7-4, followed by a thrilling 14-13 game two victory. With the sweep, SBU moves to 4-6 (4-4 MIAA) on the season.

In game one, Nebraska-Kearney jumped out to an early 4-0 after the first inning and a half. In the bottom half of the second inning the Bearcats put their first run on the scoreboard. Jake Vore led the inning off with a triple, and was brought home on an rbi groundout from Chance Wolfe. The Bearcats continued to put runs on the scoreboard in the third inning. After a single from Ross Wolfe and an walk by Landon Young, Christian Binger hit an rbi single to cut the lead down to two at 4-2. Spencer Blacksher then hit his second three-run homerun of the weekend, giving SBU a 5-4 lead. The Bearcats added another run in the fourth off of an rbi double by Ross Wolfe, and another in the fifth off of a Drew Miller rbi single, as SBU took game one 7-4. Sam Vergara picked up his second save of the season, while Brady Greear picked up the victory.

In game two UNK once again jumped out the the early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. In the bottom half of the second inning SBU exploded for six runs, fuled by a three-run homerun by Chrisitan Binger. With one out in the inning, Drew Miller reached on an error, followed by a single from Chance Wolfe. Bo Helsel then doubled home Miller, while Ross Wolfe singled home Wolfe to tie up the game at 2-2. After an rbi single from Landon Young, Christian Binger blasted a three-run homerun to go up 6-2.

The Bearcats added a couple more runs in the bottom of the fourth, off a balk and an rbi groundout, before Nebraska-Kearney started to mount a comeback. UNK scored 5 unanswered runs, cutting SBU's lead down to 8-7. The Bearcats added another two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off of rbi doubles from Landon Young and Jake Vore to extended their lead to 10-7. UNK continued to fight, scoring the next six runs as SBU found themselves down 13-10. However, the Bearcats wouldn't back down. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Bearcats loaded the bases with no outs where Christian Binger hit a two-rbi single to pull SBU within one at 13-12. The Bearcats tied the game up at 13-13 from an rbi groundout from Jake Vore. After shutting down UNK in the top of the ninth, Ross Wolfe hit a walk-off rbi double to give SBU the 14-13 victory. Sam Vergara concluded his strong day by picking up the win for the Bearcats.

On the afternoon Ross Wolfe led SBU by going 7-7 from the plate with 4 runs and 3 rbi including a walk-off double. Spencer Blacksher and Christian Binger both hit three-run homeruns for the Bearcats, while Landon Young knocked in three runs and Jake Vore knocked in a pair of runs.

The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, March 6 when they host Central Oklahoma. Game one of the four game series is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
