Bearcats and Lopers Split Double-Header in Oklahoma

Tishomingo, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team split with Nebraska-Kearney in the double-header played on Friday in a neutral location. The Bearcats took the first game 8-6 before falling in the second game 7-4.

In game one of the double-header poth pitchers started out strong, with neither team allowing a run over the first three innings. The Bearcats struck first in the bottom of fourth when Spencer Blacksher led the inning off with a double, and came home three batters later on a sacrifice fly to put SBU up 1-0. In the fifth inning UNK responded with 4 runs to take a 4-1 lead before the Bearcats responded in the bottom half of the inning. With runners on first and second, Blacksher singled to plate another run followed by a Jake Vore groundout to pull SBU with one at 4-3. UNK scored another run in the top of the sixth before the Bearcats exploded for 5 runs in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Christian Binger hit a bases clearning double to put SBU up 6-5. Blacksher then hit his first homerun of the season to extend the lead to 8-5, as SBU went on to an 8-6 victory.

In game two Nebraska-Kearney jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after second inning, and extended their lead to 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth the Bearcats responded with 4 runs to tie the game up at 4-4. The Bearcats received rbi singles from Bo Helsel and Ross Wolfe, and a bases loaded walk from Landon Young and an rbi groundout from Christian Binger, to tie the game up. Nebraska-Kearny would score three more runs over the final five innings of the game as SBU fell 7-4 in game two.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, February 28 to close out their series against Nebraksa-Kearney. First pitch of the double-header is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. from Tishoming, Oklahoma.
