Jacqui Zelenka Posts Double-Double in 76-72 Loss at Northwest Missouri

Box Score Maryville, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team lost a tough road contest at Northwest Missouri on Wednesday evening 76-72. With the loss the Bearcats fall to 10-15 (5-13 MIAA) on the season.

Northwest Missouri was the first to jump on the scoreboard, taking an early 7-0 lead. The Bearcats battled back to tie the game up at 16-16 with 10:20 to go in the half before SBU used a 10-2 run to go up 26-18 with 4:35 left in the half. The Bearcats held strong for the remainder of the half, going into the break up 36-29.

In the second half SBU quickly extended their lead to double digits at 40-29 before Northwest Missouri responded with a 17-4 to take a 46-44 lead with 13:35 to go in the game. Northwest Missouri and Southwest Baptist exchanged leads over the next five minutes, but Northwest Missouri eventually started to grow their lead. After going down ten late, SBU had a small surge in the final minutes to cut the lead back to four, but eventually fell 76-72.

Jacqui Zelenka led the way for SBU with a game high 20 points and 13 rebounds. Mackenzie Skupa was solid off of the bench, scoring 14 points off of 7 of 9 shooting, while Tanis Spani scored 11 points in her return to action. As a team SBU shot 40.6% from the field, 34.6% from beyond the arc, and 83.3% from the free throw line.

SBU will return to action on Saturday, March 1 when they host Missouri Western. Senior Day is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
