Box Score Maryville, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team fell at the hands of Northwest Missouri 89-62 on Wednesday night. With the loss, SBU now stands at 13-14 (6-12) on the season.
Southwest Baptist started the game off strong, holding a small lead throughout a majority of the first half. The Bearcats pushed their lead to a game high 8 points (25-17) with 10:28 left in the half, but Northwest Missouri started to battle back. Northwest Missouri ended the half on a 13-2 run, as Southwest Baptist went into the break down 40-33. In the second half Northwest Missouri continued to expand their lead as SBU would eventually fall 89-62.
Yusuf Owoseni and
Jaywuan Hill led the way for SBU with 11 points a piece, while
Afam Obukwelu had 8 points and
Preston Guiot,
Rashaad Brown-Peterson, and
Derrick Stewart added 7 a piece. As a team SBU shot 41.3% from the field, 26.3% from beyond the arc, and 50.0% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, March 1 when they host Missouri Western. Tip-off for Senior Day is set for 3:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
