Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team fell to #24 Central Missouri 85-67 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, SBU now stands at 13-13 (6-11 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats hung tough with the Mules for the first eight minutes of the game as both teams exchanged leads. The Bearcats held a one point advantage (18-17) with 12:24 to go in the first half, but the Mules would use a 12-0 run to quickly push their lead to double-digits. The Bearcats forced the lead back to single digits, but went into the half down 48-39.
In the second half the two teams held steady for a majority of the first ten minutes of play. After trailing by 12 (61-49) with 11:26 to go, the Bearcats went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to five (61-56) with 9:15 left. However, SBU was not able to get any close as UCM extended their lead back to double-digits as SBU fell 85-67.
Daniel Ogunyemi had a great game off of the bench for SBU, scoring a career high 11 points.
Rashaad Brown-Peterson scored a team high 12 points, while
Jaywuan Hill had 11 points and
Desi Barmore added 10. As a team, SBU shot 39.6% from the field, 20.0% from beyond the arc, and 62.5% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will play in their final road game on Wednesday, February 26 when they travel to Northwest Missouri. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from Maryville, Missouri.
