Box Score 2 Warrensburg, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team continued thier string of play against ranked teams on Friday, earning a big split against #29 Central Missouri. The Bearcats fell in game one 6-0 before taking game two 10-6, as SBU has taken two of the last three contests against the Mules.
In the second game of the double-header, the Bearcats came out swinging their bats.
Landon Young led the game off with a double to left field, was sacrificed to third, and then brought home on a
Drew Miller single to left field to put SBU up 1-0. The Mules promptly responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead. After a scoreless second inning, the Bearcats tied the game up in the third when
Jake Vore came home on a sacrifice fly from
Chance Wolfe.
The Bearcats then used a four-run fifth inning to push their lead to 6-2. Vore hit his second double of the day, bringing home Spenser Blacksher, before Miller came home on an error.
Zach Pirrello then showed excellent plate discipline, drawing a full-count walk with the bases loaded, and then Young picked up an rbi after getting hit by a pitch to give SBU a 6-2 lead. However, Central Missouri wouldn't back down, tying the game up with runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th. The Bearcats continued to battle, re-taking the lead in the 8th inning off of
Chance Wolfe's rbi single to put SBU up 7-6. SBU then added three more runs in the top of the 9th, two from an rbi double from Vore and another on a wild pitch, to claim the 10-6 victory. SBU fell in game one 6-0, collecting three hits in the 7-inning game.
SBU had strong individuals performances on the day, with
Drew Miller going 4-7 with a pair of walks while
Landon Young, Spencer Blackser,
Jake Vore, and
Chance Wolfe all picked up multiple hits on the day. SBU now sits at 1-3 (1-1 MIAA) on the season
Southwest Baptist now sits at 1-3 (1-1 MIAA) as they prepare for a double-header against #29 Central Missouri on Saturday, February 22. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from Warrensburg.
