SBU Softball Hangs with Nationally Ranked Williams Baptist

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team hung tough with #4 Williams Baptist (NAIA), but fell in both games of the double header, 5-2 and 5-4.

In game one, the Bearcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first half inning of play when Caitlyn Cooner hit an rbi single to give SBU the lead. Williams Baptist responded in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game up at 1-1. The Bearcats re-took the lead in the top of the fourth off of an Addie Murders double, but once again Williams Baptist tied up the game at 2-2 in the bottom half of the same inning. Williams Baptist took the lead for good in the sixth inning, scoring three unearned runs as SBU fell 5-2.

In game two Williams Baptist was the first to jump out to an early lead, scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two more in the sixth. The Bearcats responded in a big way in the top of the seventh. Dana Graves led the inning off with a single, followed by an Amanda Smith walk to put two runners on. Raigan Ratliff then doubled to deep left center, putting SBU on the board. Addie Murders then singled to bring home Smith, while Hailey Turner and Lyndie Routh both produced rbi singles to pull SBU within one at 5-4. However the Bearcats were unable to finish of the comeback, falling 5-4.

SBU will return to action on Saturday, February 22 when they travel to Washburn to open up MIAA play. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from Topeka, Kansas.
