Box Score 2 Bentonville, Ark. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a split in the second day of action at the Arkansas-Monticello Classic on Saturday. The Bearcats fell to Illinois Springfield 5-1 in their first game of the day, before coming back to defeat Oklahoma Panhandle State 7-3 in game two.
In SBU's first game the score remained tied through the first two innings before the Bearcats put up a run on the scoreboard in the third.
Londyn Backfisch hit an inside the park homerun, putting SBU up 1-0. Illinois-Springfield continued to fight, getting a run in the 5th to tie it up at 1-1, and four more in the 6th, as the Bearcats fell 5-1.
In the second game of the day the Bearcats bats were swinging well. SBU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning, and added runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th to go up 7-0. Oklahoma Panhandle State put up three unearned runs in the bottom half of the sixth, but SBU came out victorious, 7-3.
Caitlyn Cooner went a perfect 4-4 from the plate with 2 runs and 2 rbi, while Backfisch and
Raigan Ratliff both had two hits and 2 rbi and Stephanie Lischke had two hits and 2 runs scored.
The Bearcats will return to the field on Sunday, February 16 for the final day of the Arkansas-Monticello Classic. SBU is set to take on Drury (9:30 AM) followed by host school Arkansas-Monticello (1:30 PM).
