SBU Softball Scores 8 Runs in Opening Day of Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bentonville, Ark. - The Southwest Baptist University fell in both of their contests in day one of the Arkansas-Monticello tournament, despite putting 8 runs on the scoreboard. The Bearcats lost their season opener 13-2 against Northwestern Oklahoma State, and then fell 10-6 to Harding in the late game.

Against Northwestern Oklahoma State, the Bearcats fell behind early, trailing 4-0 after the first inning, and would eventually fall 13-2. Raigan Ratliff led the offensive charge in the first game of the day, going 2-2 with two doubles and an rbi, while Caitlyn Cooner knocked in the other run for the Bearcats.

In the late game against Harding, the Bearcats were the first ones to strike. In the top of the second inning with runners on first and second, Ratliff continued her hot hitting by singling home Dana Graves to put SBU up 1-0. On the next play, Emily Davis stole home on a double steal to put the Bearcats up 2-0. Harding fought back over the next two inning, scoring 7 straight runs as SBU went down 7-2. The Bearcats received an rbi single from Addie Murders in the fourth, and a two-rbi double by Amanda Smith in the fifth, but still trailed 9-5 heading into the 6th. With the bases loaded, Hailey Turner was hit by a pitch, bringing home another run, but it wasn't enough as SBU fell 10-6.

The Bearcats will continue the Arkansas-Monticello Classic on Saturday, February 15 when they play University of Illinois-Springfield at 9:30 a.m., followed by Oklahoma Panhandle State at 11:30 a.m.
