Jefferson City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team had no programs with the Lincoln Blue Tigers, winning at LU in dominating fashion, 98-69. The Bearcats had six players in double-figures as they improve to 13-11 (6-9 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats and Blue Tigers played a tight first nine minutes of the game, with neither team leading by more than 5 points. With SBU up three (19-16) with 10:29 left in the first half, the Bearcats went on a small 7-0 run to push their lead to ten (26-16). Lincoln fought back to cut the lead back down to three (29-26) with 6:41 left in the half, before SBU went on an 11-0 run to push thier lead back to double-figures at 40-26. The Bearcats went into the half up 53-39.
In the second half once again the Bearcats and Blue Tigers exchanged buckets, with SBU holding their double-digit lead (66-53) throughout the first six minutes of the second half. However, the Bearcats were too much for the Blue Tigers, as SBU went on a 19-4 run (85-57) to increase their lead to 28 points with 8:24 to go in the game. The Bearcats would cruise to a 98-69 victory.
Jaywuan Hill led SBU with 19 points off of 7 of 9 shooting from the field as six different Bearcats scored in double-figures.
Menas Stephens gave SBU another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while
Desi Barmore had 15 points,
Rashaad Brown-Peterson 14,
Preston Guiot 13, and
Afam Obukwelu 11. As a team, SBU shot 55.4% from the field, 42.9% from beyond the arc, and 68.0% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will return to action on Wednesday, February 19 when they travel to Missouri Southern. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from Joplin, Missouri.
