Duncan drops career high 28 points in 94-82 loss to Lindenwood

Bolivar, MO – The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats Women's Basketball team played in front of a packed student section at the Meyer Wellness Center during a pinkout for Play4Kay but were unable to make a comeback in the second half falling 94-82. The Bearcats to move to 9-12 on the season and 4-10 in conference play.

The Bearcats took the lead early to start the game 3-0 with a three pointer from Brook Duncan and found themselves up 19-14 at the 13:25 mark of the first half. Lindenwood started off in a zone defense while the Bearcats played aggressive man defense. Going into the second media timeout of the first half the Bearcats saw themselves down only 2 (24-22). Brook Duncan kept the hot hand making back to back baskets forcing Lindenwood to take a timeout as SBU took the lead 27-24 with 8:07 remaining in the first half. Duncan had a game leading 13 points with 4:59 remaining until half to aid in SBU's 3 point lead (31-28). In a first half that saw 5 ties and 5 lead changes the Bearcats went into the half down only 2 points (41-39) in a battle.

The Lindenwood Lady Lions started off the second half with momentum going on a 12-2 run connecting on their first three 3 pointers of the half. A surge from the Bearcats with 10:40 left in the game pulled them back within 13 points 69-56 and kept the hopes of a comeback alive. Halfway through the second half, SBU pulled within 9 (71-62) of the Lady Lions due to some aggressive press defense. Big three pointers from Dilonna Johnson and Sarah Magana brought the Bearcats within 5 points 75-70 with 5:37 left in the game. The Lady Lions slowly fought off the press and ran out the clock to defeat the Bearcats 94-82.

Sophmore Brook Duncan posted a career high 28 points shooting 11-18 going 4-9 from three point range and 2-3 from the free throw line. Leann Lansdown also had a strong performance as she posted 17 points, while Jacqui Zelenka had 12 points and 8 rebounds and Sarah Magana had 10 points off the bench. The Bearcats shot 46.9% from the field, 36.4% from beyond the arc, and 70% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats are back in action Saturday February 15th as they take on Lincoln University in a conference double header for the men and women basketball teams. The SBU women are set to tip off at 1:30 p.m. and the men will follow at 3:30 p.m. central standard time.
