SBU Men's Basketball Continues Road Trip in MIAA Opener at Washburn on Thursday

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist opens up MIAA play on Thursday when they travel to Topeka to take on the Ichabods of Washburn. The Bearcats are currently in game four of a five game road trip.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Clark Sheehy begins his first season on the SBU bench after coming to the Bearcats from John Brown University. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 182-106 across nine seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.

Bob Chipman begins his 36th season as the head coach at Washburn. Chipman boasts a career coaching record of 757-314 while collecting 518 MIAA wins, the most of any MIAA team in the league since the 1991-92 season.

Washburn leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 33-16. The Ichabods claimed an 89-87 victory over the Bearcats last season in Bolivar.

Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats are coming off of a 72-59 loss to Arkansas Tech after defeating Ouachita Baptist 74-70 the day before in the ATU Thanksgiving Tournament. Southwest Baptist is led in scoring by Daymond Cowlah who averages 13.4 points per game to go along with 3.4 assists per game. Menas Stephens averages a double-double at 10.6 points per game and a team high 12.4 rebounds per game, while Quinton Smith is averaging 9.4 points per game.

Scouting the Ichabods
Washburn enters MIAA play on Thursday with a 3-5 (0-0 MIAA) record on the season. The Ichabods are coming off of a 90-80 loss to BYU-Hawaii, and have lost three of their last four. The Ichabods are led in scoring by Alex North who is averaging 13.8 points per game and a team high 7.2 rebounds per game. Christian Ulsaker averages 9.6 ppg while Algie Key averages 9.3 ppg.
