Box Score St. Petersburg, Fla. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team fell in their return to action on Wednesday 84-61 at Eckerd College. With the loss, SBU drops to 5-5 on the season.
The Bearcats jumped out early against Eckerd, with a jumper from
Brook Duncan followed by a three from
Leann Terrill, to take an early 5-2 lead. Eckerd responded, and slowly started to build a lead during the first half. After going down 27-20 with 10:04 left in the first half the Bearcats responded with a 9-0 run, capped off by a Duncan three, to regain the lead at 29-27 with 5:01 left in the first. However, Eckerd finished the first half on a 18-2 run as the Bearcats went into the break down 45-31.
In the second half Eckerd College continued to push their lead, as SBU went down 29 at 63-34 with 14:43 left in the game. The Bearcats were unable to pull back within twenty, as SBU fell 84-61 in the contest.
Megan Rosenbohm led the way for SBU with 18 points and 5 steals, while
Brook Duncan added 11 points and
Alex Botkin added 10 points in the loss. As a team, SBU shot 39.1% from the field, 21.1% from beyond the arc, and 46.7% from the free throw line.
SBU will return to action on Monday, January 5 when they travel to Fort Hays State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from Hays, Kansas.
