Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist returns to MIAA action on Saturday when they host Pittsburg State. The Bearcats will look to continue their winning streak after winning their last two contest by an average of over 20 points.
The Coaches and the All-Time SeriesSBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his first season on the SBU bench after coming to the Bearcats from John Brown University. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 182-106 across nine seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Kevin Muff is in his 5th year as the head coach at Pittsburg State University. Muff has compiled a 56-55 (.505) record in four season at PSU.
Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against Pittsburg State 31-27. The Bearcats won last year's meeting 89-74 in Pittsburg.
Scouting the BearcatsThe Bearcats are coming off of back-to-back wins with a 69-46 victory over Blue Mountain College, and now improve to 5-6 (1-2 MIAA) on the season. Southwest Baptist is led in scoring by
Daymond Cowlah who averages 11.4 points per game to go along with 3.0 assists per game.
Menas Stephens averages a double-double at 10.9 points per game and a team high 10.4 rebounds per game, while
Robert Shaw and
Derrick Stewart are both averaging 7.5 points per game.
Scouting the GorillasPittsburg State is coming off of a 69-67 victory over Northwest Missouri, and hold a 4-4 (1-0 MIAA) record on the season. PSU hasn't taken the court for game action in two weeks prior to tip on Saturday. PSU is led in scoring by Josiah Gustafson who is averaging 17.0 ppg to go along with 3.8 rpg. Devon Branch also averages double figures at 16.6 ppg and 3.9 rpg, while Lamine Dieng averages 10.2 ppg and 5.2 rpg.
