Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team picked up a 69-46 non-conference victory over Blue Mountain College on Monday evening in Bolivar. With the win, SBU improves to 5-6 on the season.
Blue Mountain jumped ahead early against the Bearcats, going up 6-2 just under two minutes into the contest. The lead wouldn't last long as SBU responded with a 13-1 run to take a 15-7 lead with 12:42 left in the half. However, Blue Mountain would keep the game close over the next eight minutes before SBU used 6-0 spirt to push the game to double-digits at 27-14 with 1:42 left in the half. The Bearcats would go into the break up 33-18.
The Bearcats opened up the second half with five straight points off of a layup from
Daymond Cowlah and an old fashioned three-point play from
Finn Delany to push their lead to 20 at 38-18. The Bearcats continued to slowly build their lead throughout the second half, and a pair of free throw from Delany put the Bearcats up a game high 27 (67-40) with 3:29 left in the game. SBU would cruise to a 69-46 victory.
The Bearcats were led in scoring by
Finn Delany who had 13 points to go along with 7 rebounds.
Daymond Cowlah,
Derrick Stewart, and
Daniel Ogunyemi all had 9 points, while
Menas Stephens pulled down a game high 8 rebounds. As a team SBU shot 56.8% from the field, 50.0% from beyond the arc, and 76.0% from the free throw line.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action on Saturday, December 20 when they return to MIAA play to host Pittsburg State. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
