Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist returns home on Saturday after a five-game road trip to host Emporia State. The game against ESU begins a four game homestand while 10 of the next 13 games for SBU are at home.
The Coaches and the All-Time SeriesSBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his first season on the SBU bench after coming to the Bearcats from John Brown University. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 182-106 across nine seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Shaun Vandiver is in his 4th year as the head coach at Emporia State. Vandiver holds a coaching record of 40-45 at ESU, and played collegiately for Colorado and was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the 1991 NBA Draft.
Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against Emporia State 28-19. ESU defeated SBU 96-85 in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament last season.
Scouting the BearcatsThe Bearcats are coming off of a 80-62 loss at Nebraska Kearney, as SBU drops to 3-6 (0-2 MIAA) on the season. Southwest Baptist is led in scoring by
Menas Stephens who averages a double-double at 12.2 points per game and a team high 11.2 rebounds per game.
Daymond Cowlah averages 11.8 points per game to go along with 3.3 assists per game, while
Robert Shaw is averaging 7.7 points per game.
Scouting the HornetsEmporia State is coming off of a 92-63 non-conference victory over Rockhurst and now stand at 5-3 (0-1 MIAA) on the season. The Hornets are led in scoring by Terrence Moore who is averaging 18.7 ppg and a team high 4.9 rpg. Jay Temaat is also in double-figures at 11.1 ppg, while Jevon Taylor averages 10.4 ppg.
