Bolivar, Mo. - SBU junior forward Karla Jamison broke the SBU career goals record on Wednesday afternoon en route to a 3-1 victory over Emporia State in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament. With the victory, SBU now stands at 15-4 on the season while advancing to the semi-finals of the MIAA Tournament.

The Bearcats were quick to put a goal up on the scoreboard when Karla Jamison broke free down the sideline, and found her sister Kate Jamison open in the middle of the box where Kate placed the ball into the back of the net to put SBU up 1-0 only six minutes into the contest. The Bearcats added to their lead in the 19th minute when Taylor Schmidt sent a pass through the box to Karla Jamison who knocked it into the goal only five yards out to put SBU up 2-0. Karla Jamison added her second goal of the day in the 26th minute when she took a shot from 25 yards out which sailed over the goal keepers head and into the net to put the Bearcats up 3-0. SBU would hold strong for the remainder of the half to go into the break up 3-0.

In the second half Southwest Baptist held strong, keeping a 3-0 lead for a majority of the game. Emporia State responded with a goal from Amelie Heun in the 79th minute, but the Bearcats would hold off any more attacks from ESU as they went on to claim a 3-1 victory.

With the victory, SBU advances to the semi-finals of the MIAA Tournament where they will face the winner of the Fort Hays State/Missouri Western match to be played later today. The Bearcats next contest will take place on Friday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. from the College Boulevard Activities Complex in Olathe, Kansas.
