Box Score Tahlequah, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to Northeastern State on Sunday afternoon 2-1. The Bearcats end the regular season with a 14-4 (11-3 MIAA) record on the season.
The Bearcats and Riverhawks played a tight contest, with neither team getting on the scoreboard until the final five minutes of action in the first half. At the 42 minute mark,
Kate Jamison broke the 0-0 tie with a goal from 30 yards out as the Bearcats went up 1-0 heading into the break. Northeastern State tied the contest back up in the 52nd minute, a tie that would remain as regulation ended. Northeastern State was able to break the time in overtime scoring the game winning goal off of a penaly tick as SBU fell 2-1.
Despite the loss, Southwest Baptist has earned the #2 seed in the MIAA Tournament set to take place next week. The Bearcats will host the first round on Wednesday, November 5 against Emporia State. Play is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar, with the winner advancing to Olathe, Kansas on Friday, October 7 for the semi-finals.
