SBU Women's Basketball Falls on the Road at #3 Drury 80-62

Springfield, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team fell in a non-conference matchup at #3 Drury on Tuesday evening 80-62. With the loss, SBU drops to 0-2 on the season.

The Bearcats and Lady Panthers played a tight first half, as neither team could take hold of a commanding lead. Drury held a small margin for the first seven minutes of the half, using an inside presence to score, while the Bearcats utilized outside shooting and solid driving from Brook Duncan. Southwest Baptist claimed their first lead of the contest when Lissette Plasencia hit a three from the corner with 11:31 left in the first half to give SBU an 18-16 lead. The Bearcats and Lady Panthers continued to exchange leads, and after a jumper from Leann Terrill, the Bearcats took a 27-23 lead with 2:37 to go in the half. Heading into the break, DU and SBU were all tied up at 29-29.

Coming out of the break, Drury opened up the half on a 10-2 run as the Bearcats found themselves down 39-31 with 15:24 to go in the contest. Coming out of a called timeout, Southwest Baptist turned up the defensive intensity, while hitting a couple of clutch three's, to cut the lead down to four at 41-37 with 12:41 left in the game. DU responded right back, pushing the lead to 9 (52-43) with 8:04 to go. The Lady Panthers slowly started to pull away, as SBU would fall 80-62.

"Our ladies fought hard against a very tough team," head coach Kelsey Keizer commented. "Our second half defense caused us trouble once again. When we learn to put 40 minutes of good basketball together, we will be a very tough team."

Dilonna Johnson led the way for Southwest Baptist with a team high 17 points off of 7 of 12 shooting from the field. Brook Duncan added 16 points while Leann Terrill chipped in 8. As a team, SBU shot 39.0% from the field, 30.4% from beyond the arc, and 75.0% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats will continue their road trip on Saturday, November 22 when they travel to Illinois-Springfield. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. from Springfield, Ill.
