Springfield, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team played a tough game at #6 Drury on Tuesday evening, but fell to the Panthers 79-66. With the loss, SBU drops to 0-3 on the season.

Southwest Baptist and Drury played neck and neck to open up the game in a fast physical matchup. The teams would go back-and-forth, with neither team leading by more than three points for the first thirteen minutes of the half. After trailing 19-18, Southwest Baptist used a 7-0 run to extend the Bearcat lead to 25-19 with 5:48 left in the half. DU responded right back, tying the game up at 30-30 with 2:34 before the break. Robert Shaw would find Menas Stephens under the basket to score the final points of the half as SBU would take a 34-32 lead into halftime.

The second half proved to be much of the same, with neither team taking control of the game until late in the half. Drury made a small push, taking a 46-42 lead with 13:33 left, but Southwest Baptist responded by cutting the deficit to one off a free throw from Patrick Burke at the 12:24 mark. DU opened the game up by going on a 14-2 run over the next seven minutes as SBU trailed 60-47. The Bearcats continued to fight but would ultimately fall to #6 Drury 79-66.

Daymond Cowlah led the way offensively for the Bearcats with 16 points off of 6 of 9 shooting from the field. Menas Stephens gave SBU his second double-double of the season with 10 points and a game high 15 rebounds, while Afam Obukwelu chipped in 12 points off of the bench. As a team, SBU shot 41.8% from the field, 87.5% from the free throw line, and 31.6% from beyond the arc.

The Bearcats will return home on Saturday, November 22 when they host Maryville. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
