Box Score

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist University head women's soccer coach Robert Podeyn became the winningest coach in SBU Women's Soccer history when the Bearcats took down Northwest Missouri on Monday evening 3-0. Podeyn collected his 46th win in his SBU coaching career, and his 100th career win across three different institutions during his career.

"Accomplishing something like this is never easy and is never done alone," Coach Podeyn commented. "First, becoming the all-time winningest coach in SBU Women's Soccer is truly an honor and a privilege.  There are some very good coaches in SBU's history and I am honored to be in the same group as them.  Second, wining my 100th game as a college coach.  Wow!  Am I really that old?!  It has been an amazing journey with some great people supporting and encouraging us along the way.  We have a great Administration that always attends and cheers us on and supports what we do on and off of the field.  People like our Athletics Director Mike Pitts who attends most of our games and is the king at tweeting and updating all of our SBU fans.  What a great friend and mentor he has been always there with warmth and praise.  It has been a blessing having someone as caring and supportive there to lead our Athletics Department.  Our President Dr. Taylor who shows up in his iconic purple sports car to let us know the biggest Bearcat is there to push us on from the sidelines.  Even with his trying schedule of running a special university like ours you are still able to be at most sporting events and to show your love and support of what we do.  To Karen, Chris, Gina, Rob H., Darren, Greg, and many others.  What a great family we have!  Please know I love having you there supporting us and am grateful for all of the support and guidance you have provided.  To all of the players current and past.  Thank you for the commitment and dedication you have shown as athletes, and for believing in the plans I set forth for the program.  It has been and continues to be an honor and a blessing having such a wonderful cast of characters to work with.  To the assistant coaches I have worked with and trained.  It has been a wonderful journey in teaching all of you and in learning from all of you as well.  To my current assistant Terry; it has been a great ride working with you and in building this current program into one that is competitive at all levels.  I appreciate your friendship and the professional bond we have formed.  To my wife and family; without your love and support none of this would be possible and would certainly not have the same meaning.  Thank you for your love and support.   I am sure there are many others and I am sorry if I have forgotten you at this moment.  Please know that I do appreciate all of your support and guidance in helping me to become the person that I am.  Thank you to everyone in the SBU family, friends and fans included.  It is an honor and a blessing to be a Bearcat!"

The Bearcats started the scoring off early when Whitney Snow headed in a strong corner kick from Amy Bolton in only the 2nd minute of play to put SBU up 1-0. Southwest Baptist quickly added to their lead in the 4th minute of play when Kate Jamison picked up the ball in the middle of the field, found Elin Hammar on the left of the goal, who sent a touch pass to Karla Jamison, who beat the keeper and put it into the back of the net to give SBU a 2-0. The Bearcats held strong for the remainder of the first half, allowing only one Northwest Missouri shot, as SBU took a 2-0 lead. The defense continued to play extremely strong in the second half, and Elin Hammar added to the Bearcat lead with a goal in the 73rd minute, as SBU went on to a 3-0 victory.

SBU returns to action on Friday, October 10 when they travel to Lindenwood. Play is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from St. Charles, Missouri.
