SBU Football Dominates Ground Game in 56-0 Win over Missouri Baptist

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team won in convincing fashion against Missouri Baptist on Saturday afternoon 56-0. With the victory, the Bearcats improve to 2-3 on the season.

The Bearcats wasted no time against the Spartans, after forcing a quick three-and-out, SBU struck first on their first drive of the game. After a pair of solid runs from running back Marcus Strickland, Strickland took the ball in the endzone on a 17 yard touchdown run to put SBU up 7-0. On the next offensive possession, Willie Tindal hit Nathan Mourik with a 79 yard touchdown pass, the only play of the drive, to quickly extend the lead to 14-0.

SBU continued to pile on the points in the first half. Strickland once again had two huge runs, setting up a 9 yard touchdown pass from Tindal to Deantrel Prince to put the Bearcats up 21-0. After another three-and-out by MBU, Prince found the endzone again, this time on a 7 yard touchdown run. SBU tacked on one more touchdown after a ViaVia Manuma interception when Tindal once again found Mourik for an 11 yard touchdown as SBU went into the half up 35-0.

To start off the second half, SBU quarterback Joey Dominguez quickly put the Bearcats back on the scoreboard with a 79 yard touchdown run on the first play of scrimmage in the second half. SBU continued to pile the points on when Sydney Wiggs had a 1 yard touchdown run, after SBU got the ball back off of a Brycen Gagnon interception, as the Bearcats went up 49-0.

SBU's final touchdown on the day came from a 5 yard rushing touchdown by Tristyn Bennett, as SBU cruised to the 56-0 victory.

The Bearcats saw quite a few players recieve playing time against MBU. Willie Tindal led the SBU quarterback by going 7-10 for 167 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Marcus Strickland had a career high 119 yards on 10 carries, with one score, while Joey Dominguez added 71 yards and Deantrel Prince had 69 yards on the ground. Nathan Mourik led the SBU receivers with 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Defensively, Tyler Curts led SBU with 7 tackles, while Justin Cook recorded SBU's only sack of the game. Brycen Gagnon, ViaVia Manuma, and Anthony Frezzell all had interceptions for SBU as the Bearcat defense held MBU to 206 total yards.

SBU will return to GLVC action on Saturday, October 11 when they travel to Quincy. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. from Quincy, Illinois.
