Box Score Topeka, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team continued their strong season on Sunday afternoon, taking down Washburn 4-1. With the victory, SBU moves to 11-3 (8-2 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats once again jumped ahead early in the contest when
Kate Jamison beat the Washburn goalkeeper one on one from ten yards out to put SBU up 1-0 only eight minutes into the contest. Washburn struck back in the 33rd minute with a goal of their own to tie the contest up at 1-1. However, SBU responded only two minutes later to re-gain the lead when
Karla Jamison sent a pass to
Elin Hammar who shot from the edge of the box into the opposite corner of the net to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
Coming out in the second half, SBU continued to push.
Karla Jamison netted her MIAA leading 10th goal of the season, off of a pass from
Taylor Schmidt, to extend the Bearcat lead to 3-1. SBU added to their lead again in the 60th minute when
Whitney Snow blasted in a shot from 25 yards out, courtesy of
Karla Jamison, as the Bearcats went on to claim a 4-1 victory. In goal,
Cheyenne Forshey picked up the victory collecting 5 saves in slightly over 70 minutes of action.
SBU will return home on Thursday, October 23 when they host Northeastern State. Play is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar.
