SBU Men's Basketball Begins Roadtrip at Northeastern State on Thursday

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist hits the road for two games in Oklahoma to close out the week, starting with Northeastern State on Thursday.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Jeff Guiot in his tenth season on the Bearcat bench, where he has won three MIAA regular season titles, and compiled a 174-106 (.621) record. Coach Guiot is the winningest coach in SBU history, has led the 'Cats to an MIAA Tournament appearance each season, and has three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Larry Gipson is in his 17th season as the head coach of Northeastern State. Gipson holds a career coaching record of 549-348 (264-188 at NSU), while leading the RiverHawks to the NCAA Tournament last season.

Northeastern State leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 10-3. The Bearcats claimed the last meeting between the two squads 68-60 last season at SBU.

Scouting the Bearcats
SBU is coming off of a 91-72 loss at home against Fort Hays State. The Bearcats now stand at 8-5 (1-3 MIAA) on the season.

The Bearcats are led in scoring by Rashaad Brown-Peterson who averages 18.5 points per game, while Desi Barmore averages 16.0 ppg and 6.7 rebounds per game. Derrick Stewart averages 11.7 points per game, hitting a team high 35 three's, while Preston Guiot averages 11.6 points per game and 7.1 assists per game.

Scouting the RiverHawks
Northeastern State has won five in a row, including a 72-71 victory over Central Missouri their last time out, and currently stand at 9-2 (4-0 MIAA) on the season.

Bryton Hobbs continues to lead the RiverHawks in scoring, averaging 23.0 ppg. Curtis Evans is also in double-figures at 10.5 ppg to go along with a team high 8.8 rpg. The RiverHawks allow the second fewest points in the MIAA at 68.7 ppg.
