Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist Women continued conference play and hosted Fort Hays State at the Meyer Sports Center in the first game of 2014. As the SBU women saw themselves down early on against a tough Fort Hays State, the Bearcats came roaring back to go into the half only down four at 40-36. SBU took the lead early in the second half before it slipped away as Fort Hays State ended up on top 93-66. SBU moves to 1-3 in MIAA play with Fort Hays moving to 3-2.

The SBU women found themselves behind the pace of play down 13 with 12:40 left in the first half. Fort Hays State continued to capitalize on second chance points and increased their lead to 27-11 halfway through the first half. The SBU Women gained some momentum as they cut Fort Hays State's lead back to single digits (29-37) with five minutes left in the half. The Bearcats turned up the heat and went into the half only trailing by 4 (36-40) at halftime.

Senior Jacqui Zelenka led the team into the half with 13 points after one half of play.
SBU went on to take a one point lead with 17:19 in the second half before Fort Hays State regained the lead 56-45 with 14:41 left in the game. Halfway through the second half the Fort Hays State began to slowly pull away before closing out the Bearcats 93-66.

Senior Jacqui Zelenka continued her strong campaign by leading the team as she posted 18 points, shooting 7-14 from the floor and 3-3 from the free throw line. The Bearcats shot 38.1% from the field, 27.8% from beyond the arc, and 65% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats are back in action on the road Thursday January 9th, against Northeastern State University in a conference double header for the men and women basketball teams. The SBU women are set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men will follow at 7:30 p.m. central standard time.
