Box Score St. Charles, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team closed out their road trip with a 71-66 loss at Lindenwood on Wednesday evening. After going into the half down two (27-25), SBU wouldn't be able to close the gap as they drop to 7-9 (2-7 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats came out and shot the ball well early on, hitting their first three shots and taking a slight 7-4 lead three minutes into the half. The Bearcats and Lions continued to play a back-and-forth first half, with neither team leading by more than four points, with Lindenwood going into the half up two, 27-25.
In the second half SBU once again came out strong, hitting three of their first four shots, regaining a marginal lead. Once again SBU and LU continued to fight, with both teams taking small leads throughout the second half, as SBU found themselves ahead 58-54 heading into the final media timeout. However, after taking a 63-62 lead with 1:10 to go in the contest, SBU was not able to hold on as they eventually fell 71-66.
Jacqui Zelenka continues to lead the Bearcats, giving SBU a team high 19 points and 8 rebounds.
Dilonna Johnson added 12 points, and
Brook Duncan contributed 11 points in the loss. As a team, SBU shot 37.5% from the field, 26.1% from beyond the arc, and 90.0% from the free throw line.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, January 25 when they host Lincoln University. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
