Shell Runs Second Fastest Time in the Nation in the 200 as SBU Track & Field Continues Season

- Bill Shell continued SBU track and field's strong weekend at the Saluki Open where he posted the second fastest time in the NCAA Division II in the 200 meter dash where he won the race in a time of 22.87 seconds. The Bearcats had great success at both the Saluki Open and the MSSU Invite on Saturday.

Not only did Shell win the 200 meter dash, but he also ran the 3rd fastest time in the pre-lims of the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.10 seconds. Emma Shell also had a strong day at the Saluki Open, winning the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.33 seconds, which is a national provisional qualifying time and currently ranks 7th in the NCAA. Emma Shell also competed in the 60 meter dash where she took 8th in a time of 8.11 seconds. Closing out the Bearcat performers was Dwayne Lawerence who won the 400 meter dash in a time of 50.62, ranking him 4th all-time on the SBU performance list.

At the MSSU Invite, Deneko Brown recorded his 2nd automatic qualifying time with a victory in the 60 meter dash in a time of 6.73 seconds. After qualifying for finals yesterday, Dylan Barnum took 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles in a national provisional qualifying time of 8.31 seconds.

Next up for the Bearcats at the MSSU Invite were the milers. On the women's side, Katherine Sitzes took 3rd overall in a time of 5:23.60, while Alexis Lindemann took 4th (5:25.00), Rachel Wheeler 11th (5:41.61), and Emily Cumpton 13th (5:48.13). On the men's side Travis Furtkamp took 4th overall in a time of 4:29.40 while Derek Showler finished 9th (4:36.26), Jordan Noffsinger 15th (4:39.55), Thomas Chabrecek 17th (4:40.90), and Michael Morely 25th (5:18.13).

Closing out the running events for the day were the 3,000 meter runners. Ashley Wolkomir finished 2nd overall in a time of 10:34.92 and Christina Owensby placed 4th in a time of 10:53.18. On the men's side Drew Cargill finished 3rd overall in a time of 8:53.22 while Max Robinson finished 13th (9:33.29) and Justin Baker 14th (9:42.43).

In the field events, Josh Johnson took 13th place in the shot put with a throw of 11.49 meters followed by Barnum who took 15th place with a throw of 10.66 meters. In the men's pole vault, Corey Evans took 9th with a vault of 4.10 meters. On the women's side Staci Wickersham took 6th in the pole vault with a vault of 3.30 meters. In the women's high jump Kat Graham took 3rd with a jump of 1.51 meters.
