Box Score Liberty, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team (5-1-1) claimed a come-from-behind victory over the Cardinals of William Jewell College (4-2-1) on Tuesday night in Liberty. The Bearcats found themselves down 3-1 going into halftime, but scored 3 straight goals in the second half to pick up the 4-3 win.
William Jewell was the first to strike early in the game off of an Olivia Dykes goal only 3:01 into the game. The Bearcats responded with a goal of their own when
Nicole Billmeyer knocked in a cross from
Brittany Marino at the 23:30 mark to tie the contest up at 1-1. William Jewell would add back-to-back goals once again from Olivia Dykes as SBU went into halftime trailing 3-1.
However, the Bearcats didn't back down. SBU continued to grind, and cut the lead down to one when
Kate Jamison knocked in her third goal of the season, via
Shalyn Wheeler and
Ashley Creason at the 52:39 mark.
Ashley Creason would tie the game up for the Bearcats only nine minutes later (off of a
Kate Jamison assist), and at the 76:30 mark
Kate Jamison would score her second goal of the day to give the Bearcats the lead, and the win, at 4-3.
SBU will return to MIAA action on Friday, September 27 when they travel to Emporia State for a match-up with the Hornets. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from Emporia, Kansas.
