Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats will return home on Saturday to face the Lions of Missouri Southern after SBU fell in a road contest at #14 Pittsburg State 59-7 last Saturday. SBU quarterback
Willie Tindal is averaging 272.0 yards through the air for the first three games, while wide receiver
Derwyn Lauderdale is averaging 122.7 receiving yards per game.
Shaquille Shedd leads the Bearcat defense with 31 total tackles, while
Ivan Hodges has 2 interceptions.
Craig Schuler will begin his first season on the Bearcat bench after coming to SBU from Lindenwood University. Coach Schuler completed his ninth year as an assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Lindenwood this past season where he also served as recruiting coordinator. Schuler led one of the most prolific offenses in the nation during his tenure at Lindenwood, including averaging 45 points per game since the beginning of the 2009 season (45-game stretch). In 2010 Schuler's offense averaged a national record 8.94 yards per snap.
Daryl Dave is in his second season at Missouri Southern where he has compiled a 6-5 record. Dave's career record stands at 23-43 as he is in his 7th year coaching.
Missouri Southern leads the all-time series against the Bearcats, 17-4. Southwest Baptist won the last meeting 16-13 at Missouri Southern in 2012.
Missouri Southern is coming off of a dominating 59-10 victory over Lincoln last weekend where they piled up 607 rushing yards on the day. The Lions feature a heavy running attack, averaging 363.7 rushing yards per game, led by Chris Barnwell (92.3 yards per game). MSSU quarterback, Jay McDowell, averages 107.0 yards per game through the air, while Gatlin Ridgway leads the defense with 26 total tackles.
