Kaleb Romero had a career day for SBU Men's Soccer on Sunday evening, recording his first career hat trick in a 5-4 overtime loss for the Bearcats against Kentucky Wesleyan.
Romero started the scoring early, as he netted his first goal only 13 minutes into the game when he took the Kentucky Wesleyan goalie one on one to give SBU a 1-0 lead. Kenutcky Wesleyan would tie the game up five minutes later at 1-1 before Romero would get his second goal of the half at the 38 minute mark. Romero put the ball up over the keepers head and into the goal to give SBU a 2-1 halftime lead.
In the second half,
Bradley Stillwagon quickly extended the Bearcat lead to 3-1. Only 1:04 into the second half, Stillwagon netted a goal off of a ball that Kentucky Wesleyan failed to clear. KWC added another goal to cut the Bearcat lead to 3-2 before Romero would get his third and final goal of the day. After a save that bounced off the keeper, Romero promply placed the ball into the back of the net to give SBU a 4-2 lead, recording his first career hat trick. However, SBU could hold the lead as KWC scored two goals in the final 7 minutes of regulation, and another in overtime, as SBU fell 5-4.
In SBU's game against Oakland City on Saturday,
Kaleb Romero scored the Bearcats only goals, as they fell 5-2.
SBU will be back in action on Tuesday, September 17 when they host #9 Drury. Play is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar.
