Lauderdale Hauls in 160 Receiving Yards in 35-27 Loss Against Lindenwood

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team had a tough loss on Saturday evening, dropping their contest against Lindenwood 35-27. The Bearcats had a chance toward the end of the game, gaining possession of the ball down 8 points, but were unable to get back on the scoreboard.

The Bearcats and Lions played a tough defensive first quarter, with neither team finding the end zone, as they first quarter ended with a 0-0 tie. However, that wouldn't last for long as Lindenwood was the first to strike with 12:34 to go in the half Jaron Alexander rushing touchdown to go up 7-0. Southwest Baptist would answer back off of a 1 yard touchdown run by Willie Tindal, set up by a 39 yard rush by ViaVia Manuma, to tie the game up at 7 all. Lindenwood would break the tie after a Marvin Byrd touchdown, giving Lindenwood a 14-7 lead. However, the Bearcat offense would get two scores in the final 1:05 of the first half. John Colliver connected from 27 yards out to cut the lead to four (14-10) before Tindal hit Nyran Ross with a 26 yard pass to give SBU a 17-14 lead. The touchdown was set up by an Ivan Hodges interception, helping put SBU ahead going into the break.

In the second half, Lindenwood would once again re-take the lead off of a Tre' Roby rushing touchdown. Lindenwood would add another touchdown Corey King returned a interception back for a score, giving Lindenwood a 28-17 lead. SBU cut the lead to eight when Colliver hit his second field goal of the evening, this one from 40 yards out, to make it a 28-20 Lions lead. Lindenwood would once again respond, as Alex Robinson caught a touchdown pass, to put LU up 35-20.

The Bearcats would not back down. After a strong defensive stop, Tindal would hit Derwyn Lauderdale with a 75 yard pass to cut the lead back to eight at 35-27. The defensive would once again give the ball back to SBU's offense with 2:29 to go, but the Bearcats couldn't find the endzone as SBU ended up falling to Lindenwood 35-27.

Derwyn Lauderdale led the way offensively for the Bearcats, hauling in 6 receptions for 160 yards and a score. Willie Tindal was 15-27 for 253 yards and a pair of touchdowns and interceptions, while ViaVia Manuma had 70 rushing yards off of 15 carries. Defensively, Shaquille Shedd led SBU with 11 tackles, followed by Kashaun Hutchinson and Johnathan Drury who had 10 a piece. Ivan Hodges had two big interceptions for the Bearcat defense.

SBU will return to action on Saturday, September 21 when they travel to #16 Pittsburg State. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Pittsburg, Kansas.
