Bolivar, Mo. - The 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships selections have been made, with Southwest Baptist having five athletes selected to compete at Nationals.
For the second straight year, senior
Phillip Miller has been selected to compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Miller comes into the race with the 11th fastest time in the nation at 9:03.75.
Four other athletes will be making their individual outdoor national appearance this season.
After coming off of an All-American performance in the indoor 400 meter dash, junior William Shell is back in the field for the outdoor 400 meter dash. Shell comes into the meet with the 8th fastest time in the nation at 46.87.
Sophomore
Deneko Brown is also coming off of an All-American performance from the indoor meet, in the 60 meter dash, and will compete at the outdoor meet in the 100 meter dash. Brown is currently ranked 17th, coming in with a season's best time of 10.41.
Making his national debut is sophomore
Trenton Morris in the 1500 meter run. Morris comes into the meet with the 12th fastest time in the nation at 3:50.02.
The only female representing Southwest Baptist is Corie Chuning in the 100 meter dash. Chuning comes into the meet tied for the 19th fastest time in the nation at 11.83. Chuning has one All-American performance under her belt, earning the honor in 2011 when she was part of the 4x100 meter relay team.
The five individual athletes is the most individual runners Southwest Baptist has ever sent to any single Nationals meet.
Pre-lims for all events are set for Thursday, May 23 from Pueblo, Colorado. The 1500 meter run is set to begin at 5:25 p.m., followed by the 400 meter dash (5:55 p.m.), women's 100 meter dash (6:10 p.m.), men's 100 meter dash (6:25 p.m.), and 3000 meter steeplechase (7:10 p.m.). Finals for all events will occur either on Friday or Saturday.
