Springfield, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team pushed Evangel University to extra innings in game one of the double-header on Monday evening, but would eventually fall 4-2. The Bearcats lost game two of the double-header 8-0.

In game one, Lyndie Routh pitched an excellent game from the circle for the Bearcats. Routh held Evangel scoreless for the first five innings of the contest, allowing her team to build up a 2-0 lead. In the top of the sixth inning, Routh led the inning off with a double to right field. Tori Lamkins would follow with a single to left field, followed by another single from Hailey Turner to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. SBU would extend its lead to 2-0 two batters later when Alandria Jensen drew a bases loaded walk.

Evangel battled back, scoring a run in the bottom half of the inning and tying the game up with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, forcing extra innings. In the top of the eighth with a runner on second, Mackynzie Umbarger singled to center field, but the Bearcat runner was thrown out at the plate. Evangel would respond with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as SBU fell 4-2 in game one. The Bearcats lost game two 8-0.

SBU will return home on Wednesday, April 10 when they host MIAA opponent Central Missouri for their annual Pink Out game. The double-header is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
