Cole Roark and
Justin Pasichnyk gave SBU dominating pitching performances in a double-header sweep of Missouri S&T on Tuesday afternoon. The Bearcats claimed a 4-2 game one victory, while taking game two 4-1.
In game one the Bearcats and Miners played a scoreless game through the first three innings. The Bearcats broke onto the scoreboard in the top half of the first inning, stringing together hits to take a 4-0 lead. With one out in the inning, the Bearcats loaded the bases with a
Spencer Blacksher single down the left field line, followed by a hit batsman, and an infield single by
Kyle Jochems. Will Swofford singled through the left side, bringing home Blacksher and
Ross Wolfe to give SBU a 2-0 lead. After a
Josh Herrick single to load the bases again,
Landon Young singled to right field to bring home two more Bearcats and give SBU a 4-0 lead. Missouri S&T would add two runs in the bottom half of the inning off of a couple of Bearcat errors, but SBU would go on to claim a 4-2 game one victory.
Justin Pasichnyk pitched an excellent game, throwing a complete game three-hitter to pick up his fourth victory of the season.
In game two of the double-header, the Bearcats once again jumped out early. In the top of the first inning
Bo Helsel tripled down the left field line, bringing home
Jarod Robillard to put SBU up 1-0.
Drew Miller then hit an rbi groundout to extend the Bearcats lead to 2-0. The Bearcats added two more runs in the top half of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 4-0. With the bases loaded, Robillard drew a walk to plate Jochems, while Young came home two batters later on a Miner error. The Bearcats would go on to claim a 4-1 game two victory.
Cole Roark was credited with the game two victory, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing one run on three hits.
Zack Winchester came in to complete the game, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the year.
Landon Young had an excellent day at the plate going 6-7 with a couple of RBI's and a run scored, while six other Bearcats picked up hits on the day.
SBU will continue their road trip when they travel to Washburn on Saturday, April 13. Opening pitch of the double-header is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Topeka, Kansas.
