Arkadelphia, Ark. - Fourth seeded Southwest Baptist upset first seeded Ouachita Baptist in the Central Regional 1 of the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament on Tuesday afternoon as the Bearcats claimed a 5-2 victory. The victory marks the first time since 2008 that the men's team has advanced to the Round of 16.
The Bearcats started things off by taking #2 and #3 doubles, with victories going to the doubles team of
Domingos Carissimo/
Daniel Cardona and
Alex Belote/
Guido Margiotta to put SBU up 2-0. Ouachita Baptist took the third doubles match of the day to put Southwest Baptist up 2-1 heading into singles play.
The Bearcats would take three of four singles matches, with
Domingos Carissimo winning in #1 singles,
Kristof Kinal in #2 singles, and
Guido Margiotta in #6 singles, as SBU would go on to a 5-2 upset victory over Ouachita Baptist.
SBU is now set to travel to Surprise, Arizona on Wednesday, May 8 where they will meet up with #24 Midwestern State. Play is set to begin at 11:00 AM (CST).
